The Western world has a lot to answer for with its insatiable appetite for gizmos, trinkets, widgets, materials, clothing, etc. that must always be replaced by something newer and better (?). As you note, the cost is far greater than the sales tag attached to whatever it is we HAVE TO buy; the tags themselves are like mini-archaeology sites - a pile of sticky bits of paper, each one bearing a lower price than the one before it.
